2024: NCPPC Year in Review

- February 22 – Leandro Day of Action at the State Capitol with Bishop Barber speaking.
- March 2 – Thousands descend on Raleigh for the Moral March on Raleigh on March 2nd with a broad coalition of North Carolinians.

- March 4 – Delivered demand letters to all 170 members of the NC General Assembly.

- April 24 – Witness Wednesday welcomed back the NC General Assembly for the “short” session. We delivered demand letters and blue balloons representing the Rainy Day Fund that could fully fund child care across North Carolina.

- Week of June 10 – Worked with The Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry of NC and NC Domestic Workers Alliance to organize a Child Care Funding Cliff Call Blitz. Groups took half-hour slots to create an unbroken chain of phone calls to Senate Leader Berger and Speaker Moore, demanding they NOT let funding for childcare collapse at the end of June.
- June 12 – Witness Wednesday begins at the NC Freedom Park with powerful speakers, from low-wage workers in need of childcare to child-care workers demanding the NC General Assembly fund child care and NOT private school vouchers for millionaires.

- June 26 – Deadline for Day Care brings a crowd to NC General Assembly. Eight moral witnesses, including faith leaders and child-care providers, are arrested for nonviolent moral civil disobedience outside the legislative chambers, because Moore and Berger had refused multiple requests to meet with poor and low-wage North Carolinians about the urgency of child care and other issues. Later that day, the NC General Assembly begrudgingly passed stabilization grants that would help keep hundreds of daycares open through the end of the year.
- June 29 – Hundreds from the North Carolina PPC travel to Washington DC for the Mass Poor People’s & Low-Wage Workers’ Assembly and Moral March on Washington and to the Polls. NC is represented on stage by Ms. Kathy Medina, a low-wage child care provider in North Carolina, and Rev. Wayne Wilhelm, faith tri-chair for the NC PPC.
